The Camden Area Chamber of Commerce, like most Chambers nationwide, is supported mainly by membership dues.  Other areas of funding are constantly being sought, as well as ongoing fund raising activities.  Since the source of income is tied to membership, maintaining and increasing membership is vital to the success and effectiveness of the organization, which can only be accomplished through volunteer efforts.

The Chamber advertises for the community and Chamber members in several publications each year including the Camden News Progress Edition, the Arkansas’ South Tourism publication and other special area publications.  (Started in 1927)

Arkansas Scholars Program

The Arkansas Scholars Program is aimed at students from the 8th grade through the 12th grade.  The program partners the Chamber, the four school districts in Ouachita County and business and industry to provide incentives to students to attend school on a consistent basis, make good grades and to take classes which will benefit their scholastic or working ability. (Started in 1998)

Speakers Programs

The Chamber, working with all four school districts in Ouachita County, schedules successful business men and women to speak to students concerning the attitudes, abilities and skills which are needed to be employable.

Advertising

Chamber member businesses will receive the opportunity to advertise in the various inserts from the Camden News which sponsors Chamber related events.  Only Chamber members are given the opportunity.

Business After Hours

Chamber members can host the Business After Hours program which is used to highlight each business or organization.  Each month a different business hosts a reception for an informal time of networking.  The event can be held at the business location or at another facility.  (Started in 1950’s)

Information & Resources

The Chamber works with local small business owners to provide information on topics such as “How to Write Business Plans” and “Inventory Control”.  The office also has contacts and phone numbers of groups who can perform hands-on consulting at little or no cost.  (Started in 1995)

Welcoming Committee/Ambassadors

The Chamber Ambassadors serve as a welcoming committee for local events and ribbon cuttings upon request.  They greet people attending and thank them for visiting our area.  The Chamber also provides speakers at events to extend a welcome to guests on behalf of the area.  (Started in 1998)

Grant Writing

The Chamber works with groups in the community to write grants which work towards community development goals.  The nature of assistance varies but can include research, writing and implementation depending on the type of grant sought.

Existing Industries Survey

Every 2-3 years the Chamber compiles an extensive survey of local industries.  The survey results allow community leaders to address issues vital to the continued local operations of existing industries.  (Started in 1995)

Industry Appreciation Events

Local industries are recognized each year in a variety of ways.  Industry Appreciation Golf Tournaments and BBQs have been held in the past.  This is done in an effort to show our local established industries the area’s appreciation for their continued support to our economic base.
