The Camden Area Chamber of Commerce, like most Chambers nationwide, is supported mainly by membership dues.  Other areas of funding are constantly being sought, as well as ongoing fund raising activities.  Since the source of income is tied to membership, maintaining and increasing membership is vital to the success and effectiveness of the organization, which can only be accomplished through volunteer efforts.

As board members approach non-member businesses and individuals about joining the Chamber, the most frequently asked question is “What does the Chamber do for me?”  Below is an outline of various programs which the Chamber is either completely responsible for, or strategically partners with other organizations to assure that our community is productive and proactive.  The formal programs account for approximately 45% of the Chamber staff work time, the remainder of the staff work time is spent working directly with business, industry, government, tourists and individuals as they request or need assistance with community and economic development projects.  These projects are as varied as the businesses or individuals requesting the assistance from the staff.  They range from locating a site for a potential business; technical support in financing options; statistics regarding labor and demographics; and, tourism and historical data that can all be obtained in one location - the Camden Area Chamber of Commerce.

After becoming familiar with the various programs which are sponsored by the Chamber, the question still arises “How does that program affect me?”  An example of a program sponsored and endorsed by the Chamber which benefits all citizens, businesses and industries is the Arkansas Scholars Program.  The program is aimed at 8th grade students, presented in the Spring semester which focuses on the importance of staying in school and keeping their attendance at 95% during the 9th-12th grades.  In five short years these students will either be in college, in the workplace or on the street.  Does this program assure an investment in the future which will affect all businesses?  Absolutely!!
