Leadership Camden Area

Leadership Camden Area is designed to build a competent leadership pool, motivate emerging and existing leaders and develop the participants’ potential for community leadership and decision-making by exposing them to the realities, strengths, resources and needs of our area.

In a nutshell, Leadership Camden Area is needed to develop leaders who can transform our community. This program can help transform our community by providing enlightened, educated, empowered and motivated community leaders. It has become clear that leaders of all constituencies within our community must work together competently to help our community meet the challenges of the future. People from across boundaries must talk and work together to solve problems and to steer our area toward its preferred future -- its vision.

It is a program of the Camden Area Chamber of Commerce and Southern Arkansas University Tech. A Board of Directors oversees the program and local civic leaders, educators and specialists in selected fields coordinate and guide such matters as curriculum, programs, speakers and potential participants. An anonymous selection committee appointed by the Board President selects the participants each year.

Included are programs on leadership skill development, understanding personalities, strategic planning, communication, history, business and economic development, law enforcement, cultural diversity, education, health and human services, local government, state government, and quality of life. Sessions are held at various locations suitable for the theme of a particular session’s topic. It is essential that the applicant be able to commit the time required to attend the sessions.

Anyone may apply if he/she is 18 years or older and has completed college, high school or the equivalent. However, a formal Leadership Camden Area application form must be used. The anonymous selection committee will choose a maximum of twenty (20) individuals from the applications to participate each year. Candidates not selected for the current year may be reconsidered for future classes.
